Students learn science principles in engaging way that is educational and relevant.
SCIENCE Grades K-5
At this level, science is primarily a "hands on" curriculum. Students engage in interactive projects which enables them to explain basic concepts and relate them to the world.
Students in each grade are guided by units of study following the Academic Standards for Science: Physical Science, Earth Science, Life Science, and Science Engineering and Technology. Each grade level has its own major units of study within the framework of the broader standards.
SCIENCE Grades 6-8
At this level, daily science work is completed in a well-equipped science lab. A combination of textbooks, journals, scientific vocabulary development, and experiments are tools used to help students problem solve relevant scientific issues and move to abstract mastery of scientific concepts.
Middle school students have multiple opportunities for guest speakers and visit the Jordan Hall of Science at Notre Dame for various experiments. Students participate in researching a scientific problem of their choice and have the option to participate in the annual Northern Indiana Regional Science Fair.
