GENERAL MUSIC Grades K-8
Curriculum in music combines music, movement, composition, awareness of composers, creativity, and drama to enhance music literacy in all grades. The music room contains various Orff instruments which are integrated in the general music curriculum.
Beginning in sixth grade, students can audition for a musical performance which occurs every year in a theatre setting. There are various opportunities for children to participate in this production.
BAND Grades 5-8
Students have the option to select either general music or band as they enter grade five. The band program is developed for students to attain high levels of self-expression. Participation as a young musician can result in more than simply learning to perform a musical instrument. Students gain knowledge and understanding of key signatures, rhythm, sight-reading, tuning, and musical expression. The various bands promote the development of skills necessary for success in future music and non-music endeavors and offer a sense of accomplishment and pride. Students participate in multiple competitions and perform three major performances a year.
