ADDENDUM TO ATHLETIC HANDBOOK: COVID HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS
All protocols in this document are subject to change as mandated by local/state/federal government agencies, the Diocese and/or Parish and School leadership.
GENERAL
All student-athletes and coaches must follow all protocols outlined in the most recent Saint Pius X Catholic School Student COVID-19 Management Plan found on the School’s COVID Response webpage (www.stpiuscatholicschool.net/bts), including daily health screenings and quarantine and isolation guidelines.
Adult volunteers/coaches will be required to participate in a training for COVID protocols prior to the first practice.
Students and parents will be required to read and accept participation expectations with a zero tolerance policy.
If students do not follow ALL safety protocols at ALL times, a parent will be contacted to pick them up and they will not be allowed to participate in future activity.
The head coach will be required to complete an attendance and contact tracing worksheet during each practice/contest to account for all close contacts.
Students are responsible for bringing their own filled water bottle.
There will not be access to drinking fountains.
Students may not share water bottles.
All students must provide their own snacks for athletic contests.
Locker rooms will only be available for practices that take place immediately following school. Students will dress in shifts and no more than three (3) students will be allowed in each locker room at one time.
Students, coaches, and parents/spectators must follow any additional guidelines as provided by the venue for athletic competition.
Celebratory gestures must be non-contact (no high-5s or other exchanges).
No pre-game or post-game handshakes with opponents or officials.
Only students and coaches are allowed on the field/dugout, track, and court.
Players will not be allowed to have gum or sunflower seeds.
ARRIVAL / EXIT
All students, coaches, and volunteers are required to wear a mask when arriving for a practice/contest and when leaving the practice/contest.
Coaches should arrive prior to students to ensure all participants are following safety protocols.
Students should not arrive more than 5 minutes prior to the start of each practice.
Students will not be allowed to congregate within 6 feet of each other before/after practices/contests.
Parents will be expected to pick up their child promptly at the end time of each practice.
PHYSICAL DISTANCING
Distancing of six feet or more will be followed to the extent possible during practices/contests.
Team huddles must be spread out.
Students will be separated into smaller groups during practices, as feasible.
TRACK MEETS: Students will be required to distance in between events and will be encouraged to bring their own blanket/towel for times when they are not competing.
If pairing/grouping of participants is required, students will be partnered with the same student(s) throughout each practice (and grouping must be recorded by the head coach).
MASKS
All students will be required to wear a mask when arriving for a practice/contest until physical athletic activity begins, when leaving the practice/contest, and when distancing is limited. They are permitted, but not required, to leave the mask on during athletic activity.
BASEBALL: Masks are required in the dugout.
TRACK: Masks are required when not training/competing.
GOLF: Masks are required any time distancing of 6 feet cannot be maintained.
TENNIS: Masks are required when not competing.
Masks will be required for coaches and adult volunteers at all times.
HAND HYGIENE
Students, coaches, and other volunteers should wash their hands prior to arrival.
Hand sanitizer will be accessible during practices/contests. Students and coaches are also encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer.
CLEANING AND SANITIZATION
Students should provide their own equipment and should sanitize their equipment before and after practices/contests.
If shared equipment is necessary, it should be sanitized by the coach/adult volunteers at regular intervals throughout and after each practice/contest.
SPECTATOR GUIDELINES
Spectators may be limited depending on county, state, and facility guidelines.
Spectators must follow the guidelines of the facility/venue where the contest takes place.
Spectators are asked to perform a health screening prior to arriving at the venue and stay home if feeling ill.
Spectators must maintain proper physical distance of 6 feet in between households at athletic contests.
Spectators must provide their own lawn chairs for seating.
Masks are required for spectators at all times except when seated and six feet of distancing is maintained.
Spectators are encouraged to avoid congregating and to leave immediately after practices/contests are over.
