10/30/2020 Important COVID Update
Dear Parents,
The COVID Health Management Committee would like to remind all parents of a critical component of our Health Plan, especially as cases continue to surge in our county.
If your child, or anyone in your household, has one or more of the primary symptoms of COVID, and/or they are being tested for COVID, your student should remain at home until the person has received their test results (remember, at this time, we do not accept negative results from a rapid test). This is critical to avoid potential spread to the classroom.
As a reminder, please make note of the definition of close contact, the primary symptoms of COVID, and the daily health screening questions required daily for all SPX students and staff in our HEALTH PLAN HERE. If you have any questions, please contact the School Office and someone from the COVID Response Team will be in touch with you.

9/4/2020 Feedback Survey and Early Dismissal on Tuesday, September 15, 2020
We are a few weeks into the new school year and we feel together we are off to a positive and safe start. We currently have no cases of COVID-19 in the building and we continue to pray for God’s protection during this pandemic.
Now it’s time to evaluate our first few weeks. Because this is new territory for all of us, including parents, students, teachers, and administrators, we want to look at where we are, how we are succeeding, and how we can improve.
We see where we need to make a few changes to continue to provide a high quality education for virtual and in-person as well as keep the plan sustainable for teachers. We believe restructuring some of the internal logistics and techniques will provide better interactions and more focused time for each group of students, maintaining high-quality synchronous and asynchronous experiences. Additionally, this new format will reduce the amount of planning time, which has doubled for virtual teachers, and better prepare the teachers who may need to transition to virtual in the future (due to student quarantine, isolation, etc.).
As part of the evaluation process we also want to hear from you. Your feedback will help guide our next steps and will inform us about the in-person or virtual experiences for your students. Please fill out the optional question survey HERE to provide your feedback.
With the support of the HASA Board and the School Board, we are adding an early dismissal to the school calendar next week, Tuesday, September 15, FOR STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE to allow the teachers to work together to consider your feedback and to implement some of the creative solutions that have surfaced.
Please mark your calendar for the following dismissal on Tuesday, September 15:
those who pick up at 2:50 p.m. will pick up at 12:30 p.m.
those who pick up at 3:05 p.m. will pick up at 12:45 p.m.
Thank you for your support and affirmation this school year. Together, we will continue to help your children grow in faith and knowledge.

8/31/2020 Updated COVID Health Management Plan
The updated SPX School COVID-19 Health Management Plan is posted above. These updates were made based on the most recent recommendations from the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), the Catholic Schools Office, and local medical professionals.
It is very important for all parents to carefully read through this document and make note of when you may need to take action for the safety of your children and the entire Saint Pius X School community.
A few changes to note specifically:
DIOCESAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS OFFICE (CSO) PLANNING TEMPLATE-The CSO asked that all schools in the Diocese complete a detailed template mapping out the plan to return to school, including the domains I previously shared with you: Technology, Catholic Identity, Curriculum and Instruction, Community/Social-Emotional Learning, and Logistics and Planning. We submitted the completed document to the superintendent for approval today.Upon approval of the Diocesan planning template, we can finalize the Back-to-School Plan and share it with you. We will post the Diocesan planning template on the school website and share that link with you as well.
SAINT PIUS X BACK-TO-SCHOOL PLAN-We are also completing a custom document designed to provide you all with a clear guide to the key areas many of you have been asking about when thinking about the return to school in August.
There are four key areas that we will focus on while developing the plans for school year 2020-2021:
SIX DOMAINS FOR RE-ENTRY The following domains are the focus for committees tasked with establishing policy and procedure to return safely to school this fall:
Logistics and Planning Addressing the operational aspects of the return to school in the fall
Health Preparing for the health and well being of students and staff
Creating and Maintaining Community Making intentional decisions to create and maintain community
Catholic Identity Promoting authentic Catholic identity and providing a continuous avenue for faith formation
Curriculum and Instruction Addressing the needs for teaching both in-person and virtually
Technology Preparing for distance learning in the future
WHO IS DETERMINING GUIDELINES FOR EACH DOMAIN
Saint Pius X School and Parish staff members are serving on subcommittees focusing on each domain above.
Two parents also participating on each subcommittee. Parents are currently serving on either School Board or Home and School Association Board.
